Apparently these days in order to be an effective blogger it is just not enough to be able to be a good writer, you also have to be able to make good videos. I struggled at first with this because I like to think of myself as a mature, savvy, grown-up businesswoman but then I hear my voice and I tremble at my audio resemblance to a 14 year old girl. At least that’s what it sounds like to me. And it is just embarrassing how long it took me to master the use of this software. I mean, I consider myself someone who is comfortable with technology but Screenflow was almost my undoing. And not because of the software, because I developed this major mental block and would seize up with fear when it came time to record.
But lo and behold, my 3rd attempt at Video Blogging for work and I think I finally got it. And to be honest I am really proud of it. #1, I have been totally frustrated with all the twitter for business articles that act like every small business person knows what twitter is just because they know how to read articles on the internet. Twitter is fun, and I LOVE it with the passion most usually reserved for teeny boppers and drug addictions, but it is by no means intuitive. You have to learn all kinds of things about how to use it, before you can even start to think about using it as an effective tool for business. And if you try skipping those vital basic steps right to all the high level theories and choosing a 3rd party host and developing a marketing strategy, before you even really know what twitter is/does, then it’s going to take a really long time to stumble through all that information, a large part of which wont make sense. It will make you feel confused. And then you might not want to use it, and then you might give up. Which is a shame because it really is a tool with a whole lot of potential.
So basically I’m proud of myself for creating something useful. Something I want to show to my mom. And #2 it’s pretty, which I also like, because I hate producing anything that looks like crap out the door. Like I said, visual person.
So here it is, in all it’s glory. It took me way too long and I’m still figuring out the microphone and I had to do it about a million times because of saving issues and sound issues and whole other host of technical issues which pretty much stole and burned my “girl in tech” badge… but it’s ok, because it’s here and it’s done and it’s something I am proud of.
So Enjoy! And a big big thank you to Polyvore which I used to make the slides and to WoodyGuitar who’s fantastic playing contributed the background music for this song playing an acoustic version of Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons.
